In a move that has left the Democrats quaking in their boots, Tesla founder Elon Musk has pledged his full support to former President Donald Trump, promising to donate an astounding $45 million per month to a super PAC designed to bolster Trump’s voter outreach efforts. The Wall Street Journal reported this game-changing news, which comes hot on the heels of Musk’s public endorsement of Trump following a failed assassination attempt on the former President.
Joining Musk in backing America PAC are other high-profile figures such as Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, the Winklevoss twins, and former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft along with her husband Joe Craft, CEO of Alliance Resource Partners.
CAST YOUR VOTE: Should Voter ID Be Mandatory In The 2024 Election?
Since its inception in June, America PAC has been relentlessly registering voters in key battleground states where Trump’s lead has surged significantly since Saturday’s shooting. This group, operating behind the scenes, is urging Trump supporters to vote early via absentee ballot or mail-in voting – a strategy that mirrors the Republican National Committee’s nationwide initiative. An insider from the PAC informed the Journal that the strategy is aimed at neutralizing the Democrats’ traditional advantage in ground operations.
Even by the inflated standards of American politics, Musk’s donation is a jaw-dropping display of the ultra-rich using their wealth to influence elections. With a net worth of approximately $250 million, Musk is the richest man in the world. If he follows through on his promise, it could be the largest contribution by an American citizen in U.S. political history.
The Journal also reported that America PAC has significantly increased its staff, hiring hundreds in swing states like Pennsylvania and Virginia where the race is heating up. In Pennsylvania, recent polls show Trump leading President Joe Biden by 3%, while in Virginia – a state Biden won by 10% four years ago – the race is now fiercely contested.
This donation marks a significant shift from Musk’s earlier stance in March when he stated he would not financially support either of the main presidential candidates. However, following an assassination attempt on Trump during a speech in Butler, PA, Musk expressed his full endorsement of Trump on social media platform X, wishing him a speedy recovery.
“Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt,” Musk added, further cementing his support for Trump.
According to the Journal, there have been increasing talks between Trump and Musk over the past year, leading to speculation about whether Musk might play a significant role in a potential second Trump administration. While it seems unlikely that the SpaceX founder would leave his three corporations to join Trump’s cabinet if he wins, we all know that politics can be full of surprises.
