A teenager, known for his illegal migration status and a previous attack on officers of the NYPD in Times Square, was recently apprehended yet again. This time, he allegedly robbed a Macy’s department store in Queens. The dangers associated with a lax border control policy become glaringly evident in cases like this.
19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel stands accused of this offense, and he was not alone in this criminal endeavor. Along with three other individuals, Gomez-Izquiel was charged with robbery and petit larceny.
Contrary to what might appear in a reckless Hollywood portrayal of a heist, this incident was far from refined. A security guard was punched in the face during the robbery. Such physical altercations underline the violent nature of these crimes and their impact on innocent individuals simply doing their jobs.
Gomez-Izquiel was among a group of illegal migrants who had previously attacked officers belonging to the NYPD. Astoundingly, they were initially released without any charges pressed against them. Such acts blatantly disrespect the rule of law and public safety.
After their release, these unscrupulous individuals tried to escape, a testament to their lack of remorse for their actions. Fortunately, their flight was cut short at a bus station in Phoenix where they were apprehended by ICE agents.
