In a shocking development, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a left-leaning organization infamous for its habit of labeling conservative individuals and groups as “white supremacists,” has revealed plans to lay off 60 employees in an attempt to reduce expenses.
While the SPLC has yet to confirm the exact number reported by the Associated Press, it did acknowledge that an “organizational restructuring” was underway, leading to significant staff cuts.
These layoffs come after years of internal chaos within this radical leftist group. Several members have been apprehended for their involvement in violent riots linked to Antifa. In 2019, SPLC co-founder Morris Dees was ousted from his position, and an external group was commissioned to scrutinize workplace practices.
In response to these cuts, the SPLC expressed strong disapproval of the decision to downsize. The SPLC Union stated, “Today, the Southern Poverty Law Center — an organization with nearly a billion dollars in reserves and rated F by CharityWatch for ‘hoarding’ donations — gutted its staff by a quarter.”
“The SPLC’s decision has a catastrophic impact on the organization’s work in support of immigrants seeking justice and its mission to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance human rights through support of educators,” added the union.
The Southern Poverty Law Center defended these reductions as “a difficult but necessary decision to focus and align our work with our programmatic priorities and goals.”
“Our mission at the SPLC is clear: to serve as a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond. In partnership with communities, we are working tirelessly to dismantle white supremacy and advance the human rights of all people — especially Black and Brown communities,” said the organization.
Established in 1971 as an advocacy group for minorities, the SPLC gained notoriety for successfully suing the KKK. However, it has since devolved into an organization that equates anyone right of Stalin with the klan.
Recently, the SPLC labeled Moms for Liberty along with several other parental rights in education organizations as “hate groups,” equating them with entities like the KKK and neo-Nazis.
In 2022, despite having $711 million in assets and receiving over $100 million in donations annually since 2019 (as reported by AP), this organization still saw fit to cut its workforce drastically.
