Former President Donald Trump, a beacon of hope for the people of New Jersey, led an overwhelming rally that attracted almost 100,000 supporters in the popular vacation spot of Wildwood. This town, although home to less than 10,000 permanent residents, was swarmed by eager supporters from Philadelphia and Delaware County, Pennsylvania who lined up hours ahead of Trump’s arrival.
The sight was truly extraordinary as the crowd gathered near the famed Wildwood boardwalk. The enthusiasm for Trump in this favorite holiday destination on the Jersey shore is a clear indication of his growing popularity among southeast Pennsylvania residents.
Trump has previously hinted at holding rallies in New Jersey – a state typically seen as solidly blue. However, recent political events have given Republicans hope. In 2021, one of the most surprisingly close gubernatorial races took place in New Jersey. Democrat incumbent Phil Murphy barely managed to win against Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli by less than three percentage points – a result that shocked most pollsters who had projected it as D+10.
Trump has wisely chosen Rep. Jeff Van Drew to lead his campaign in New Jersey. Van Drew is not just any Republican; he was once a Democrat who switched parties due to his objections over the Trump impeachment trials. Now he stands as one of Trump’s staunchest allies in New Jersey.
Since switching parties, Van Drew has effortlessly secured re-election twice. He has earned high praise from Trump himself who said on Truth Social post last November: “I have known Jeff for a long time and consider him to be one of the best political minds anywhere.”
In addition, Trump expressed optimism about their chances in New Jersey because of what he sees as failures by the Biden Administration: “He feels, as do I, that because the Biden Administration has been so bad to the Garden State, that we have a very good chance of winning New Jersey.”
Trump also highlighted his personal connection with New Jersey and his commitment to its people: “I spend a great deal of time in New Jersey, love the State, and its people. With what is going on in our country now, open and broken borders, record setting crime, high taxes and regulations, disrespect of our military and vets, the worst Inflation in 72 years, and a terrible economy, we will win New Jersey, and possibly by a lot,” he declared.
If Trump does manage to turn New Jersey red, he will be the first Republican to do so since Ronald Reagan’s victory in 1988. This would truly be an unprecedented triumph for Republicans in this typically blue state.
