House Republicans Launching Impeachment Proceedings Against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

The House Committee on Homeland Security has announced that they will begin impeachment proceedings against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his actions concerning the southern border crisis.

CNN reported on Wednesday that this decision has been made.

A committee spokesperson provided the following statement to CNN:

The House Committee on Homeland Security has conducted a comprehensive investigation into Secretary Mayorkas’ handling of, and role in, the unprecedented crisis at the Southwest border for nearly a year.

Following the bipartisan vote in the House to refer articles of impeachment against the secretary to our Committee, we will be conducting hearings and taking up those articles in the coming weeks.

The Daily Mail reported that the first impeachment hearing into Mayorkas will be held next week. Border officials have revealed that in December, a record-breaking 302,000 people crossed the border illegally.

Despite this information, Mayorkas has refused to take responsibility for his failures in controlling America’s border with Mexico and instead blamed “climate change” during an appearance on MSNBC Wednesday. Circumstances may change as more information becomes available.

During an interview with CNN, DHS spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg criticized the GOP for proceeding with Mayorkas’ impeachment.

There is no valid basis to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, as senior members of the House majority have attested, and this extreme impeachment push is a harmful distraction from our critical national security priorities.

Secretary Mayorkas and the Department of Homeland Security will continue working every day to keep Americans safe.

In November of last year, eight House Republicans declined to pursue Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Articles of Impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, thereby rendering the impeachment effort ineffective.

It remains to be seen whether a subsequent attempt will yield a different outcome.
