Eric Sorensen, a Democratic representative, has been a vocal advocate for children’s drag shows and has served on the board of an LGBTQ organization known for distributing explicit content to minors.
Sorensen defended these drag events by suggesting that some could be deemed ‘age-appropriate’.
According to Libs of TikTok, Sorensen himself is fond of dressing in drag and women’s clothing. They reported this online.
The LGBTQ organization he was associated with hosted sexually-themed youth groups, distributed chest binders to underage individuals, and promoted a graphically illustrated book to a teen book club.
Libs of TikTok wrote that Sorensen has publicly opposed banning drag shows for kids and has even led such events. They added that he seems keen on exposing children to adult-themed sexualized performances.
Sorensen also organized a congressional campaign fundraiser at a drag show.
In 2023, Sorensen criticized Republicans’ efforts to ban drag shows in Kentucky, arguing they should instead focus on making schools, parks, and homes safer from gun violence. He wrote, “We have to fight this extremism.”
In 2019, he thanked @clockincLGBT for hosting a ‘fabulous’ drag event aimed at helping kids ‘come into their shells’. He expressed his admiration for seeing children being their ‘authentic selves’.
However, critics argue that Sorensen’s progressive views are not in line with his Illinois district, which only narrowly supported Democrats in the last election.
Mike Marinella, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), stated that Sorensen’s far-left radical views would be more fitting in San Francisco than rural Illinois. He added, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
