Isra Hirsi, the daughter of Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, is crying foul after being suspended from Barnard College for taking part in anti-Israel protests at the nearby Columbia University. She claims she’s been left homeless and without food.
This 21-year-old troublemaker was among more than 100 individuals arrested for trespassing during these protests last week.
Hirsi complained that her suspension led to her eviction from campus housing and exclusion from the dining hall.
“I was a little bit frantic, like, where am I going to sleep? Where am I gonna go? And also all of my [expletive] is thrown in a random lot. It’s pretty horrible,” Hirsi whined. “I don’t know when I can go home, and I don’t know if I ever will be able to.”
According to Hirsi, she reached out to administrators but didn’t receive a response for 48 hours, only to be told she could pick up a prepackaged bag of food.
This suspension came on the heels of Omar grilling Columbia leaders about anti-Israel activism on campus during a congressional hearing.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman, another Democrat, suggested that Hirsi’s suspension was political retaliation for Omar’s probe.
“The day after @IlhanMN questioned Columbia leadership’s commitment to free academic expression, the school suspended her daughter?” Bowman posted online. “It’s clear what is happening here. Our educational institutions should not be in the business of political reprisals.”
