The Biden family’s foreign entanglements have come under intense scrutiny as Republican members of Congress have issued a criminal referral against Hunter Biden and James Biden. The allegations? Making false statements to Congress regarding their overseas business activities while their father, Joe Biden, was the Vice President.
Republicans contend that the Bidens spun a web of lies to conceal Joe’s involvement and influence peddling that raked in over $45 million. “Our investigation has revealed President Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family cashing in on the Biden name around the world,” Chairman James Comer stated. “Despite this record of evidence, President Biden continues to lie to the American people about his involvement in these influence peddling schemes. It appears making false statements runs in the Biden family.”
The referrals highlight inconsistencies such as Hunter denying any role with Rosemont Seneca and misleading claims about threatening texts.
“Lying to Congress is a serious crime with serious consequences. Both Hunter and James Biden did just that to cover up President Biden’s involvement,” Rep. Jim Jordan expressed.
James is also under fire for allegedly lying about Joe not meeting business associate Tony Bobulinski.
Republicans caution that if the Department of Justice (DOJ) fails to act on this criminal referral, it would further erode public trust in equal justice. They warn of an alarming double standard being set.
“President Biden claims no one is above the law. We will soon see his Department of Justice put that principle to the test,” Rep. Jason Smith retorted. “If the Department of Justice fails to act on our criminal referral and hold Hunter Biden accountable, they will once again be telling the American people there are two tiers of justice in this country. One for the wealthy and politically connected, and one for everyone else.”
However, Democrats continue to defend Hunter’s work in Ukraine, which Republicans have targeted, as legitimate and claim Joe’s related actions were in line with U.S. policy.
This referral marks a significant escalation in partisan clashes over the Bidens’ foreign affairs.
