Johnny Carson, the iconic late-night television host, once shed light on a scandal that would haunt then-Senator Joseph Biden for years to come. The subject of his monologue was Senator Joseph Biden, a Democratic candidate caught up in a contentious issue.
“One of the Democratic candidates is Senator Joseph Biden. Have you noticed the trouble he’s been getting into?” Carson initiated.
“He gave a speech and it seems he quoted, I believe it was a British politician, took his speech and sort of reworded it as his own. The media caught wind of this. He was also accused of lifting parts from Bobby Kennedy’s speeches.”
Carson then delivered an excellent punchline. “And Biden says, don’t worry, he reassured his staff. He said, ‘we have nothing to fear but fear itself,'” he joked, skillfully weaving the scandal with a well-known quote credited to Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The incident Carson was referring to involved Biden’s use of excerpts from a speech by British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock without proper citation, along with claims of borrowing from speeches given by Bobby Kennedy.
Despite being decades old, Carson’s message appears to still hold relevance today during Joe Biden’s presidency.
