Once again, the Democrats have given us a weekend full of drama and uncertainty. The latest bombshell is President Biden’s decision to suspend his re-election campaign, a move that has been in the works due to whispers about Vice President Kamala Harris’s potential to challenge Donald Trump. This juicy piece of information was leaked by three of Biden’s aides who were privy to the internal debates regarding his political future.
At the ripe age of 81, Biden bowed to party pressure and stepped aside, endorsing Harris. However, his personal apprehensions reflect the wider concerns among Democratic leaders about Harris’s capability to lead the party in the upcoming November elections.
There are even rumors circulating on Politico suggesting that Pelosi gave Biden an ultimatum of three weeks to withdraw from the race.
“Nancy made it clear that they could do this the easy way or the hard way,” said a Democrat familiar with private discussions who wished to remain anonymous. “She gave them three weeks of the easy way. It was about to get ugly.”
The day Biden announced his withdrawal, numerous reports claimed he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. But an intriguing report surfaced on Axios the following day.
The report pointed out that Harris is at a critical juncture. At 59 years old, she faces the daunting task of proving her skeptics wrong while trying to eliminate any potential competitors for the Democratic nomination.
Furthermore, the report underscored that Harris is a nightmare to work for, as evidenced by her high staff turnover rate. Only five out of the 47 staffers listed in 2021 are still working for her this spring. This starkly contrasts with Biden’s first term as Vice President, which saw much greater staff stability.
The relationship between the Vice President’s office and the West Wing has been far from smooth. There have been instances when White House aides felt that Harris was not fully on board with the team and shied away from challenging tasks. For instance, she hasn’t done anything at the border after Biden appointed her “Border Czar.”
Biden’s initial announcement did not endorse Kamala Harris. That endorsement came later on X (formerly Twitter).
As of this post’s publication, Biden has yet to appear before a camera to make a statement.
There are also rumors that Jill Biden went on a two-hour rant and that Hunter Biden has withdrawn his lawsuit against Fox News.
