On Monday morning, President Joe Biden’s supporters were left in dismay as he withdrew from the race, a move that was particularly distressing for “Morning Joe” host Mike Brzezinski. Despite the fact that many of Biden’s liberal colleagues had long since abandoned him, Brzezinski continued to defend his competency and standing in the polls.
Brzezinski, along with her co-host and husband Joe Scarborough on MSNBC, discussed the termination of Biden’s campaign in a manner that resembled a eulogy more than a political commentary.

“I’m really sad. Joe Biden is a patriot. I love him, I love his family and I love what he’s done for the country,” Brzezinski lamented. She praised Biden’s authenticity and empathetic touch, which she believed made him an effective president. However, she acknowledged that these qualities turned against him following the debate.
A number of liberal commentators from mainstream media outlets joined Brzezinski in applauding the 81-year-old president for his decision to step aside. They conveniently ignored the forceful pressure campaign that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had promised to intensify if Biden did not withdraw. Brzezinski encouraged Democrats to rally behind the “democracy ticket” and support Harris at the party’s convention in Chicago next month.
Brzezinski emphasized that Democrats must unite and organize to have any chance of defeating Donald Trump, stating, “It’s go time and Democrats really have a moment of momentum here, and my hope is that they grab it and run with it, get unified, get organized, get coordinated, no more infighting. Donald Trump is not easy to beat. He is not easy to beat, and anyone who thinks he is, is back in 2016, when they’re laughing at the concept.”

The “Morning Joe” hosts went above and beyond to allow President Biden to defend his campaign in the weeks leading up to its abrupt end. Following an abysmal debate performance on June 27th, Biden’s exclusive interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos did little to alleviate Democrats’ concerns about his mental sharpness. After appearing on “Morning Joe,” a visibly agitated Biden became even more flustered when Brzezinski referred to him as the “presumptive nominee” for the Democrats. The show’s staunch defense of Biden led MSNBC executives to pull it from the air out of fear of what Brzezinski or Scarborough might say following an attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life.
Brzezinski also commented that Republicans have already initiated a “hate campaign” against the vice president, citing her sources within Republican circles and right-wing media.
“The hate campaign against Kamala Harris has begun. You’ll notice they purposefully pronounce her name wrong… they do it all the time, they do it on purpose. The talk is to start that hate campaign and get it going and get it churning. My hope is that major Democrats and major Republicans from the Obamas to the Bush family to military leaders, get behind the democracy ticket and move on.”
