Eric Swalwell May Be In More Trouble With House GOP

Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is facing heavy criticism after being accused of helping Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, evade a subpoena issued by the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee.

Sources within the House, including Republican lawmakers, are claiming that Swalwell, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, may have played a role in assisting Hunter Biden in refusing to comply with the congressional subpoena. This has raised questions about potential involvement in ongoing investigations and whether Swalwell’s actions could be considered aiding and abetting.

The subpoena was a part of efforts by Republicans to compel Hunter Biden to testify about various controversies surrounding his business dealings and financial transactions. These allegations, though unverified, have led to further scrutiny of Hunter Biden’s involvement in overseas business deals and potential tax fraud.

Initially, Hunter had agreed to appear before the House Oversight Committee, but he later changed his mind when he was denied the opportunity to have the hearing open to the public. This sudden change came on the same day that Republicans were set to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s involvement in his family’s business affairs.

Special counsel David Weiss has already charged Hunter Biden in two states with crimes related to tax fraud. James Biden, the president’s brother, has also been issued a subpoena to answer questions about money he and his wife received from these business deals, some of which was allegedly funneled into the president’s private bank account.

When Hunter Biden refused to comply with the subpoena, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) swiftly announced their intention to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against him. They made clear that they will not give Hunter any special treatment simply because of his last name.

In response to Hunter’s decision to forgo the deposition, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) voiced her support for the contempt proceedings, emphasizing the need to hold Hunter Biden accountable. “Hunter Biden is clearly trying to hide and cover up the money laundering and the abuse of power that he and his father are guilty of,” she said.

Despite Hunter’s decision to hold a press conference on Capitol Hill to criticize Republicans for publicly sharing private photos of him, the allegations against him persist. Republicans argue that his public statements are merely distractions from the main issues at hand.

“I look forward to following the process for contempt of Congress, which absolutely should be done. Hunter Biden is refusing to show up today, which is unacceptable. He is trying to cover up the abuse of power that he and his father are guilty of,” said Greene.

These events have only added to the already turbulent political climate in Washington, D.C. The unfolding drama surrounding Hunter Biden and his ties to overseas business dealings promises to continue causing waves in the political landscape.
