Recently, a series of photos showing former First Lady Michelle Obama pregnant have gone viral online and has caused massive speculation. From the surface rose questions about whether Michelle and Barack were the natural parents of Sasha and Malia Obama.
However, a quick investigation proved that these images were AI generated and not the real deal…But what does this hoax reveal about the Obamas and those around them?
One user on X, Charlotte, The Baroness, posted the photos with a caption reading “BREAKING: Michelle Obama silences ALL conspiracy theorists and demands a universal apology after FINALLY releasing glowing pregnancy photos when she was expecting Sasha and Malia”.
It’s worth noting that Charlotte doesn’t appear to be an Obama supporter – her pinned tweet is of her wearing a fake “Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself” sweatshirt. She later confirmed that she knew they were AI-generated before posting them.

Snopes found that two AI-detecting online tools showed that artificial intelligence had produced these images. They also noted in their fact-checker article that despite efforts to find authentic pregnancy photos of Michelle using open-source tools, they had been unsuccessful so far.
This has lead some people (including QAnon sources) to believe falsely that Sasha and Malia don’t have natural parents other than Barack and Michelle. This theory has roots in another false one – namely Joan Rivers’ claim back in 2014 that Michelle was born male.

So why did these bad photo hoaxes go viral in the first place?
It reveals how many people are suspicious of government officials, especially those who are hypocrites or don’t seem truthful.
For instance, Barack Obama knew about Hillary Clinton’s Russia collusion hoax while he was president yet there were no consequences for him or his administration’s actions. Furthermore, while playing identity politics which consigns minorities to permanent victim status he owns a sprawling estate on Martha’s Vineyard near the ocean despite fear mongering about climate change/rising sea levels from himself.
