Rally Chant Goes Off Script
Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton tried to fire up a crowd this week with a chant aimed at Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, but the moment quickly became the kind of campaign clip no staffer wants to see bouncing around online. In the video, Acton sings out, “You cannot buy this state! You cannot buy Ohiooooo! You can’t buy us. You can’t buy us!” She then pushes the room to repeat the line, adding, “You can’t buy us! You can’t buy us in Ohio! That is the end of this.” If the plan was to show strength and command of the room, let’s just say the execution left plenty of room for improvement.

Reporter Calls Out The Moment
Right Line News reporter Eric Daugherty posted the clip on X and did not exactly offer a glowing review. He wrote, “Not only is this woman unhinged but she will govern Ohio like a LEFTIST DEMOCRAT the moment she gets in. No wonder she’s refusing to debate @VivekGRamaswamy.” The chant itself was built around the charge that Ramaswamy cannot buy Ohio, which is a bold message to deliver while struggling to get the crowd to follow along. Politics is theater, but voters can usually tell the difference between energy and a forced campaign exercise.
The Debate Fight Is Now Front And Center
Acton’s campaign has formally rejected participating in debates against Ramaswamy. Ramaswamy accepted invitations from CNN and Cincinnati’s WLWT, and he has described a debate as the job interview Ohioans are owed. Acton campaign manager Phil Stein said she would not “platform a scam artist who spreads baseless lies about her and her family.” Stein also accused Ramaswamy of using AI to portray Acton as having a substance problem, and said GOP and allied spending north of $50 million had produced “the most vile and repulsive lies” in state history. That is quite a list of reasons to avoid a debate stage, but voters may still wonder why the answer is not simply to show up and make the case.
Ohio Voters Know The Stakes
Acton served as Ohio’s health director during COVID and is running for governor after an uncontested Democratic primary. Ramaswamy defeated Casey Putsch in the GOP primary. Ramaswamy has said that if Acton will not debate, she cannot lead. The rally clip adds another layer to a race already focused on leadership, public trust, and whether Ohio voters will get a direct side-by-side debate before making their choice.
